I think it was a random day in June when I heard a knock on my door. When I opened up, there she was, a bundle of the finest velvet, held in the arms of my boyfriend, with eyes begging me to love her, feed her and never leave her. Mission accomplished. Almost 12 years have passed since, and I can still vividly recall how she smelled of her mother’s milk that day, that’s how tiny she was. I didn’t really want a dog back then, I was in my early 20s, my sense of responsibility didn’t quite kick in yet. But from the second she was given to me, I could not imagine my life without her, without my Summer. And I still can’t, it’s a bittersweet feeling, now that she is an old dog. I love her and I miss her every second, even right now, when she is right next to me, snoring like a steam engine, not knowing I am writing about her and my love for her.
